How to Play Nonogram

A nonogram — also called Picross, a griddler, or a Japanese crossword — is a picture logic puzzle. The numbers along each row and column tell you the lengths of the runs of filled blocks in that line. Use those clues to work out which cells to fill and which to leave blank, revealing a hidden picture once the whole grid is complete.

Strategy & Tips

• Start with the largest clues: in a 10-cell line, a clue of 8 forces the overlapping middle cells to be filled no matter where the block sits.
• Mark cells you know are empty with an X — ruling squares out is just as valuable as filling them in.
• Alternate between rows and columns; every line you solve adds new constraints for the lines that cross it.

How do you solve a nonogram? Fill the cells that overlap in every possible placement of a clue, cross out the impossible ones, and repeat until the Picross grid fully resolves.
